Educate children, build their future

Deficiency in education is one of the most important problems affecting children from very poor backgrounds. ERDS owns and runs four primary schools that cater to about 1200 children in the 3-10 years age group.

Clean water
access to toilets
Absence of clean water and lack of toilets (leading to open defecation)
are two of the most important problems affecting the extremely poor
segments of the rural population. ERDS has constructed 33,500 toilets
and five tube-wells till date in West Bengal.
Enabling earning
Suitable livelihood opportunities are hard to come by in the rural interiors
of West Bengal. ERDS has successfully run over 1,000 vocational training
courses wherein trainees have gone on and opened tailoring units, barber
and beautician parlors, mobile phone repairing outlets and bicycle
repairing shops.

Last Saturday, 17th September,2016 newly installed British Deputy High Commissioner Mr. & Mrs. Bruce Bucknell visited the Economic Rural Development Society (ERDS) in Boral, to see the work that British volunteers David Silver and Anne Gardner have been doing over the last 3 months.
